Malt
It looks like it has been one of the big questions I have been getting recently.
Whenever there are temperature changes and the Bunnies start to lose a lot of hair, the questions about Malt Paste begin.
Can Bunnies take Malt Paste? - No. The Malt Paste was initially invented for Cats, according to their intestinal tract and their characteristics, as we have seen since the beginning, the Bunnies are not like cats, nor are other animals (see here if you have not yet have seen it or if they have already forgotten), we are very delicate and fragile, so taking something that was not done with us in mind is not a good idea.
Why is Malt Paste bad for Rabbits? - The Malt paste is made with lots of sugars and sugars are bad for our system, they will unregulate everything and instead of helping, it only disturbs because it will feed the "bad" bacteria that we have in our intestines and they will increase and get more strong and will end up overcoming the "good" bacteria that are the ones that make everything work well, ending up unbalancing this environment and deregulating the intestine, then the malt paste what it does is to create a protective film that does not leave the hair "grab" the walls of our digestive system and so the hair and everything else "slips" to the exit. But, when creating this film it will also not let our system absorb the nutrients necessary for a balanced additive, that is, we will eat, but our body cannot remove the nutrients from what we eat and thus we start to get nutritional deficiencies. and health problems, it's like dipping your hands in oil, now nothing gets stuck in your hands, everything slips, just like your skin now with this layer, it cannot absorb oxygen, nor water and it also cannot lie here sweat out because there is that layer of oil, at the bottom is what the malt paste does in your bunny's body.
Is There Any Malt Paste For Rabbits? - Yes. There is a German and an American brand that has a paste for rabbits that does not have malt, it is all made with herbs and has some more components that help to drain the fur, in the end someone took the herbs that are good to drain the fur, mixed everything together, added a few good things for the rabbits' tummy and put it in a tube. But I do not know the brand, nor do I know if it is for sale outside these countries.
If I can't give Malt Paste what can I give to help with the Fur? - You can brush a lot and often the fur (see here on our fur), insist a lot on the water, a hydrated bunny will have its entire digestive system and its entire intestine hydrated, facilitating the passage of the fur, eating a lot of grass or "green hay" (see here ) and a lot of hay, the hay is rich in fiber and the fiber just like for you humans is good for going to the bathroom, it is also very good for us to make round and golden balls and as a measure preventive can make some mixes of weeds or give the weeds separately during the moulting so as not to overcharge the bunny's organism. ( here are the herbs we can eat and what they are for).
