One way to carry the bunny to your lap is on the side, always with both hands, one is under the butt and paws for support and the other on its back so that the bunny's front paws rest on the arm near the elbow. This way you can keep the bunny safe and he can see what is going on around him, being able to hide his head in the human's armpit if for some reason he is afraid.
When there is a great deal of complicity between humans and bunnies, when they are afraid or in some stressful situation, such as at the vet, it´s normal for them to go to human's lap and lean against your chest or belly, they are afraid and a good way to calm them down is to take them with one hand on the butt and the other under the paws and touch your chest but this time facing you, keeping their chest against yours, so they feel be safe and you can calm him down by rubbing your nose over theirs or just staying that way until he feels calm.
