Pellets / Litter Wc
I am often asked about the pellets to use in the Bunny's Wc, I often see the place where the bunny is all full of pellets / sprinkles spreading.
Some questions are usually:
Can I use Fireplace Pellets in my Bunny's Wc? - No. Although they look like animal pellets, fireplace pellets are produced for fireplaces, they are produced to make heat, not to absorb liquids, they are often made of wood by-products that come from wooden products factories where these wood is treated with chemicals and other products, or even Pine when it comes into contact with the pee of the rabbits, it releases chemicals that are very harmful to the rabbits, or Cedar is also harmful to the rabbits, the which after a while will cause the bunnies to have serious health problems.
Even when they say that they are made of natural products and without additives, it is enough to be made of pine, so that only that is reason not to buy.
Where do I put the Pellets for my Bunny? - Pellets are to be only in the bunny's toilet, nowhere else. And if you want, put a plastic net over it to not hurt your paws better. (See here about the Wc).
Do the shavings harm the Bunnies? - Yes. I often see the bunnies' space full of shavings. Here we have the same principle as fireplace pellets / granules, if these shavings are made of pine or cedar, which happens 90% of the time, they are toxic to the bunnies, because when you pee in them you will make a chemical reaction that will make the chips release chemicals that are very harmful to the bunnies. In addition, the dust that these scraps usually have can also be sucked in by the Bunnies and end up harming their lungs.
What can I use in my Bunny's Wc? - Pellets or granules suitable for animals, which can be wood, corn, hemp or paper, in this case you have to see which ones you like the most. You can also use hygienic rugs as long as your bunnies don't eat them or even straw or hay.
Can I use cat litter in my Bunny's toilet? - No. Cat litter as the name says is for cats, it has components that can be sucked by the bunnies causing breathing problems .
Why can't I use Puppy Pads in my Bunny's Wc?
Pads, toilet mats or even litter pads, there are several names that can be given to those rectangles or squares with a plastic base and a top that looks like cotton. They are very dangerous because the material they are made of is a super absorbent material and that increases in volume to absorb liquids, if the bunny eats this material, in addition to being toxic, with the liquids that exist in the bunny's system it will increase by size causing empactation and blocks in the bunny.
